The New Earth Hour Logo

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) with the first switch off done in Sydney Australia way back in 2007 with the familiar logo below.

As the years went by people probably ask what good can just an hour (out of 8760 hours per year) of "switch off" actually do for Mother Earth?  For Earth Hour 2011, the '60+' logo was introduced representing a commitment to add to Earth Hour a positive act for the planet that goes beyond the hour. Take up the 'plus' and get involved with the movement beyond the hour.

Here at Lafayette III we also try as much as we can to do our 'plus' for the environment like energy conservation measures such as the conversion of lights into LED, conversion of air conditioning units into inverter types, recycling and upcycling materials for decors, etc.  And there are still a lot more that can be improved upon.

For 2023 the logo evolves into a flip clock to give a sense of urgency as the clock is ticking towards the 2030 deadline... The next 7 years are crucial in determining whether we stay within our planetary boundaries and under the 1.5°C temperature increase limit set by the Paris Agreement.  Unless we change things, we are on track to breach this 1.5°C limit by 2030, in doing so risking irreversible environmental degradation and runaway climate change that will affect all our societies and economies.

The clock is ticking...  May each one of us do our bit to save our Mother Earth...
